I remember the first time I saw the title "Flatbush Gardener" it made me think of Lana Turner's character in Ziegfeld Girl, but her Brooklyn sure didn't look like this!

The solid white hibiscus are still blooming here, and a few red Texas stars open once in awhile - I love hibiscus.Annie in Austinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14662139490401110432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14731145.post-1154657962140033012006-08-03T22:19:00.000-04:002006-08-03T22:19:00.000-04:00The pond is just two MONTHS old: That garden was b...The pond is just two MONTHS old: That garden was built in June of THIS year!

It was designed professionally. The owner was quite clear that she wasn't a gardener, but she knew what she wanted, and what plants she liked, from past years' garden tours. She had used the same designer on a small bed in the front yard, and hired him to do the entire back.

I had to go back and look at the pictures to see where the "red fence" was! That garden was so complex and big you couldn't see everything. I just tried to find some vantage points and snap away. So many gardens, so little time!Chris Kreussling (Flatbush Gardener)https://www.blogger.com/profile/08467595231097695124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14731145.post-1154657160034827882006-08-03T22:06:00.000-04:002006-08-03T22:06:00.000-04:00That pond is way cool--it looks like a grotto of s...That pond is way cool--it looks like a grotto of sorts. Hard to believe that garden is just a year old!

My favorite part of the tour was the red fence, though. I have posts to put up for my grapes and espaliered fruit trees, and I stained them a similar color... I only hope mine look as cheerfully bright as that fence does once they settle in.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14395380166485303934noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14731145.post-1154619368422583472006-08-03T11:36:00.000-04:002006-08-03T11:36:00.000-04:00Love the pictures of the gardens, but I was drawn ...Love the pictures of the gardens, but I was drawn to that old subway station. It's so funky, and I can't believe it's still used. Being from California the subway system you have is quite interesting. Your pictures are really helpful to my understanding of city gardens.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11602157551486306908noreply@blogger.com
